Boys Over Flowers~

I think for the first drama I will review will be the one the only Boys over Flowers!

Now I know that this is based on the Manga, so it is originally Japanese. However, I stuck to the Korean version, and I am very Biased lol.

Now, if you are new to the K-Drama world and have no clue where to start. My personal advice is to always start with the older ones. Are they super corny, Yes! But they have a certain kind of charm to them that just makes you want to rewatch them over and over again, and maybe even think about looking at the other remakes from different countries ya know.

Now Boys Over Flowers is a South Korean Drama that was directed by Jeon Ki-Sang and written by Yoon Ji-Ryun. It is the Korean predecessor to the Japanese shōjo manga Boys Over Flowers [ Hana Yori Dango.]

This one is one of the OG's in my book. It's kind of like the holy grail of the drama world. It's about a young girl, Geum Jan-di, who helps her family run their dry cleaning business. She is very kind-hearted and super strong-willed. One day while she was making a delivery, she helped talk a guy who was bullied by the school and their notorious F4, which is the four wealthiest guys in the school. These four men run everything, and everyone in the school, whether it be the students or the teachers. They are all under the control of the F4.

Now, because Jan-di has a very kind heart, her helping the kid not jump off the building got the attention of the administrators, and they gave her a scholarship in swimming to go to the school. Alright now, no, she doesn't swim, but she is there to graduate and hopefully do more.

While at the school, she makes many enemies, and not only that, but she makes enimines of F4. That is until the leader of the group, Gu Jun-Pyo, develops a crush on the strong-willed girl, who lets nothing gets in her way.

Okay, from the start of the drama, it keeps you interested. Like how Jan-di helps the kid not kill himself to her being accepted and then for me, this is where you know the buttons began to get pressed, but I think I will start with the Pros!

The first one is the love story between Jan-di and Jun-Pyo. GRANTED, he was a massive dick, but he learns to genuinely care for her. Minus the whole amnesia thing.

Another thing that I really loved is the basic rich boy, poor girl plot. NOW HEAR ME OUT WHEN I SAY THIS!! If it wasn't for this plot, k-dramas wouldn't have advanced past this point. Like if they kept with the same ol plot, which they have, but they are spicing it up. Once you get a hold of this k-drama plot, I feel like you can literally see the end in other dramas with the same kind of scenario. I like it... no, I love this!

Also, the love triangle is something that is still placed in almost every drama that has a whole love interest thing, so it is kind of unavoidable.

SIDE NOTE... KHJ CHARACTER DESERVED MORE!!! AND THAT'S ON IMNIDA

My next pro would be the relationship between her best friend, Ga-Eul, and Yi-Jung. THEY ARE SO CUTE!!!  I don't really have much to say about them.  I honestly didn't pay too much attention to them as a couple. It was so much going on in the drama when it came to couples everyone had something or someone, and after a while, I just got tired.

Now my favorite pro was the music!!! I can not tell you guys how much I love the music! Every time the intro came on, I had to dance to it. On top of that, the Overdramatic entrances! Who wouldn't love that! Lol all the light shining on them and through them, and the other students just going crazy about them coming to school. It was iconic!

My last pro for the list would be Jun-Pyo's straight hair. I mean, I hated... I HATED the curls with everything in me, so when he did the whole ", I gotta make Jan-di like me " thing and flat ironed his hair. That was the peak for me in the drama!

Now on to the CONS!! Even tho the drama is still one of my favorites to date, everything has a good and a bad side to it. While I was rewatching the show to freshen up my viewpoints on it. Sadly I saw how many things I hate now and hated more when I first watched the drama.

So with the first con, it will be Kim Hyun-Joong and his acting. Back when the drama was top-rated, I didn't have much to say about Kim Hyun-Joong, but after watching him in this and his later drama Playful kiss... maybe acting just isn't for him. I say this in the most positive way that I can too. However, I still loved him, but after playful kiss and everything that he did to his ex GF... made me hate him a bit more than average, but he still got a cute face tho!

Other than that, another Con was the freaking HAIR lol I can not stress this enough. I know I have to give way since this was shot back when most of the fashion that was in the show was popular, but even back then, I was over the hair! Lol KHJ and the new hair he had in the back that killed me! Then Minho with then dang curls... THE CURLS HONEY THE CURLS those sent me and are still sending me.

Before I started writing this, I decided I needed a refresher on the drama just in case I missed anything important, and each time I saw Minho on the screen, I wanted to scream because of the hair! Oh, and that fur they kept putting him in. Whew, chile rewatching this drama was so stressful.

Con number 45638, the violin playing! Now I don't play the violin well, but I have been teaching myself. After seeing that crappy acting called " Playing" BABEH!!! NO MAAM. I have never cringed so hard lol I watch this YT channel called TwoSet Violin. Those two guys are where I get a lot of my classical knowledge from when it comes to the instrument. Knowing how many Asians there are that plays the damn violin... it's baffling that they didn't put just a small amount of extra effort to find someone just do the acting for his fingers bro that this there.

The last Cons on the list is the manhandling and the fact that Jun-Pyo was so damn gullible. Now we are tackling the manhandling thing first. I've always hated the fact that Jun-pyo stayed jacking Jan-di up! Like stayed grabbing the girl by her shirt oh and the part where he was trying to force her to kiss him that shit there threw me sis. I don't know what the damn director had in mind, but shit, that wasn't it, sir!!

I understand to make a drama more watchable they throw in things here and there, but they could have made Jun-pyo way smarter than he was. Like he fell for everything!! EVERYTHING! The whole cheating scandal with Jan-di, that right there threw me... I've figured out that with this drama, I have just been getting thrown all over the place. Lol, the whole show was outta pocket.

All in all, Boys Over Flowers is a perfect drama to watch if you have no idea where to start! Being that it was one of the very first dramas that I watched, I will forever hold this drama close and dear to my heart, but I still have many issues with it lol I just have to get over them.
